The Tanana Chiefs Conference and UAF have completed testing of the Green Machine, a heat-to-power generating system that can reduce diesel fuel consumption and lower energy costs for rural Alaska communities. UAF will host the Really Free Market Saturday, May 19, in the Patty Center parking lot. People can drop off items for the market from 8 to 10 a.m. The market is open from 10 a.m. to noon. Alexander Bergman, from the Office of Sustainability, helped generate electricity to power computers, charge cell phones and run a light at the Fort Wainwright Earth Day events. The Energy Dorm Competition concluded Monday with the residents of Cutler Apartments winning. Cutler’s energy consumption was reduced by 18.9% with Mcintosh and Lathrop following with a cut of 7% and 6.2%. The competition saved 14,211kWh which represents $2,468. Dozens of students will be honored at the University of Alaska Fairbanks’ annual student awards breakfast Saturday, April 28 at 9:30 a.m. in the Wood Center Carol Brown Ballroom. New York Life today announced a three-year, $900,000 gift to the University of Alaska to support educational activities and scholarship programs for disadvantaged students.
