Engineering majors Steve Lee, left, and Andy Chamberlain load pieces of the framework onto scaffolding in preparation for construction of the 2012 ice arch going up in Cornerstone Plaza.
Each year the Civil and Environmental Engineering department holds a competition to build an ice arch on campus, part of a 90-year tradition at UAF.
The ice arch is typically part of the Engineers Week celebration, which this year kicks off Sunday, Feb. 19. The 2012 arch will be built following a design by engineering major Andy Chamberlain. His was the winning choice from four designs submitted in December.
